This year was action-packed and included several major life changes such as a new job and a new living situation in the DC exurbs. I am grateful that 2023 brought me to 15 countries including a continent that I have not previously visited: South America.
Below are my 2023 travel statistics courtesy of FlightMemory, the best free website for tracking previous flights that you have taken to a nerdy-level of detail, including airline, flight number, aircraft type, seat number, etc:
- Total Distance Flown: 80,514 Miles (129,575 Kilometers)
- Earth Circumnavigation: 3.23x
- Distance to the Moon: 0.337x
- Total Flight Time: 187 Hours = 7.8 Days = 1.1 Weeks = 0.26 Months
- Total # of Flights Taken: 43
Some of my travel highlights include:
Ringing in the New Year in Cairo with old friends and visiting Dahshur and Saqqara.
Joining a group safari to Chobe National Park, over land and aboard a boat on the Zambezi River near Kasane in Botswana.
Getting soaked while visiting Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, from both the Zimbabwe and Zambian sides.
Taking a road trip in South Africa from Johannesburg to Kruger National Park where I camped for several nights, taking independent and group safaris and encountering a pride of lions in the darkness!
Visiting Saudi Arabia through the Gateway KSA program with the opportunity to tour many of the Kingdom’s top companies, explore AlUla’s historic sites & enjoy the desert, and learn about KSA’s history and contemporary issues.
Learning about the storied past and remaining mysteries surrounding Easter Island (Rapa Nui).
I’m so excited for 2024 and the many travels and new experiences that it brings. There are already multiple trips and other exciting opportunities in the works! My goal is to fully re-launch my travel blogging in 2024 to share more about my adventures and provide valuable information and insight to other travelers, especially young people and those traveling on a budget.
Thank you so much to all of my family, friends, and readers for your support.
